ROCKWOOD WEST GOES TO
THE NORTH RIM OF THE
GRAND CANYON

Sometime last year it was suggested we have a rally that included a trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  In November the reservations were made and the plans firmed up.  We were initially going to meet at Sam's Town in Las Vegas, proceed to the Elks lodge in St. George, Ut for a few days of sightseeing and then travel to the North Rim.  As they say, the best laid plans....,  For starters, most folks going didn't want to go to Las Vegas so it was agreed we would all meet in St. George.  Dennis and I arrived in St. George and discovered the Elks were upgrading the camping area and were shutting down the electric connections and we would have no electricity during our stay.  This was unacceptable because the temperature was in the upper 90s and lower 100s.  So, we had to make alternate plans and meet instead at an RV park in Hurricane, UT.  Between June 10th and June 12th we all arrived in Hurricane.  On June 13th we headed to the North Rim.

Below are some random pictures of the Grand Canyon taken by Ramona Escamilla and Dennis Kotan.

Ramona and Gerry took a mule ride along the rim of the canyon.

At the end of a day of sightseeing we would all gather at the Evans' coach for happy hour and dinner.  One night Nita provided a hot dog feast with all the trimmings.

There were many flowers in bloom and these were snapped along the trail at Point Royal.

On our last night at the North Rim we ate dinner at the Lodge to celebrate a wonderful outing and Steve and MaryLee Smith's wedding anniversary.

We had wonderful weather during our stay with beautiful days in the low 80s and cool evenings.

On Sunday morning we all had to be out of the campground by 10 a.m.  Some of us headed home, others went north on their way to the Calgary Stampede and we headed east to Kansas City.

I'm already looking forward to the rallies that are planned for this fall.

Until September, enjoy your summer and happy travels.
